President Tinubu has celebrated Bishop Matthew Kukah at 73, praising his democratic contributions, interfaith work, and compassion for the poor.
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as he marks his 73rd birthday on August 31, 2025.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the cleric’s “compassion for the poor and underprivileged,” noting that it has shaped people-centred development policies in Nigeria and beyond.
The President said, “Bishop Kukah’s role in the struggle for the return of democracy in Nigeria and his support for peace and harmony are remarkable.”
He recalled Kukah’s service in Nigeria’s Truth Commission, Political Reform Conference, and Electoral Reform Committee, as well as his work fostering interfaith dialogue between Christians and Muslims.
Tinubu prayed for longer life, good health, and wisdom for the bishop, describing his advocacy for justice and democracy as “an irreplaceable treasure.”
