Prison officer murdered after exposing colleague’s sexual affair with inmate

Ex-prisoner Elias Morgan was convicted of murdering officer Lenny Scott after the guard exposed his affair with a prison colleague.

Former prisoner Elias Morgan has been found guilty of murdering prison officer Lenny Scott, who uncovered his illicit relationship with a female guard.

Scott, 33, was gunned down outside a Skelmersdale gym on February 8, 2024. Prosecutors said the killing stemmed from 2020, when Scott discovered a mobile phone in Morgan’s cell at HMP Altcourse. The device exposed Morgan’s sexual relationship with prison officer Sarah Williams.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) told the court that Morgan offered Scott £1,500 to dispose of the phone, then threatened him when he refused. “Morgan knew there was evidence on it which would lead to the discovery of a sexual relationship between him and a female prison officer,” prosecutors said.

Williams was later jailed for misconduct after admitting she had affairs with multiple prisoners. Morgan, 35, denied the charge but was convicted Friday. He will be sentenced Tuesday. A second defendant, Anthony Cleary, was acquitted.
