Rivers State verification has revealed thousands of ghost workers and pensioners, reducing civil servants to 37,703 and pensioners to 19,186.
The Rivers State verification exercise has exposed significant payroll discrepancies, reducing civil servants and pensioners on record.
Sole Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas disclosed this during a meeting with labour leaders at the Government House on Friday. “Only 37,703 staff were verified as genuine employees, compared to over 43,000 previously,” he said, adding that pensioners dropped to 19,186 from more than 25,500.
Ibas said 2,004 local government pensioners were confirmed from over 2,600, while about 8,000 LG staff were verified across seven councils. He gave a September 4 deadline for completion of the exercise and revealed an overpayment of N117 million in March triggered an investigation.
