The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)
The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, demanding responses to 11 key financial queries regarding discrepancies in the company’s audited financial statements. The deadline, set to expire on July 10, follows NNPCL’s request for a two-month extension—an appeal the committee firmly rejected.
Committee Chairman Senator Aliyu Wadada recently voiced outrage over “mind-boggling and unacceptable” irregularities, including over N200 trillion in unexplained receivables and undocumented legal and audit fees between 2017 and 2023.
“It is unacceptable. We have given them 10 working days. This committee will not tolerate delay tactics in matters concerning public funds,” Wadada stated.
He further warned that non-compliance could lead to serious constitutional consequences. “Any attempt to disregard this committee’s directive will amount to contempt of the Senate. We are here to protect public funds, and we will not be deterred,” he added.
