A Tribune investigation reveals that death-row inmate Elijah Oyebode has run active TikTok accounts, livestreams and businesses from inside Ibara prison in Ogun State, exposing a wider network of smuggled phones, drugs and officer corruption.

Prison walls couldn’t stop his online hustle. Per Tribune Online, Oyebode — convicted in 2019 for the 2016 murder of Osun State University student Rofiat Adebisi — has maintained TikTok accounts reaching Level 20 gifting status, monetizing livestreams watched by thousands unaware of his death sentence.
He also impersonated TikTok host Omolola Awoyele, who later exposed his clone account. Oyebode claimed correctional officers routinely smuggle phones and drugs into Ibara, describing a parallel prison economy. The Nigerian Correctional Service acknowledged “bad eggs” among officers, saying over 1,400 have faced disciplinary action, while TikTok reported removing millions of videos nationally — though Oyebode’s core account remained active for months after the report’s findings were shared with the platform.
