Atiku: I’m proud I blocked Obasanjo’s third-term agenda

Atiku Abubakar has defended his role in blocking Olusegun Obasanjo’s third-term agenda, calling it a proud stand for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy, a day after Obasanjo said picking him as running mate was his biggest mistake.

Atiku isn’t backing down. Per Tribune Online, in a statement by his aide Phrank Shaibu, the former Vice-President said: “I am proud that I stood against the third-term agenda… I have no apology whatsoever for frustrating every attempt to subvert our democracy.”

He argued the battle was about preserving Nigeria’s constitution, not personal rivalry, declaring “the Nigerian people won that battle.” Atiku also rejected Obasanjo’s characterization of their partnership, recounting how he supported Obasanjo during his imprisonment and helped him regain political footing afterward, insisting he holds no regrets over the assistance he rendered.
