Didier Deschamps has turned down his players’ request for a free evening in Miami ahead of Saturday’s World Cup third-place playoff against England.
France’s squad asked for a night out as a chance to clear their heads following Tuesday’s 2-0 semi-final defeat to Spain. Deschamps refused, reportedly determined not to end his tenure with back-to-back losses.
The France squad travelled from their training base in Boston to Miami on Thursday to prepare for the encounter. It marks Deschamps’ final match in charge of Les Bleus before he steps down after 14 years at the helm.
England, who lost 2-1 to Argentina in the other semi-final, face France on Saturday with only bronze at stake. Daily Post reported that Deschamps chose discipline over relaxation as his squad closes out the tournament.
