SENATE TO FG: END EX-INSURGENTS’ REINTEGRATION, PROSECUTE TERRORISTS
The Senate on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to end the rehabilitation and reintegration of former Boko Haram members, insisting suspected terrorists should be arrested and prosecuted, Vanguard reports.
The resolution followed a motion by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua on escalating attacks against military personnel, which cited the abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar. Lawmakers observed a minute of silence in his honour and resolved to send a delegation to condole with his family, the Katsina State Government and the Nigerian Army.
The Senate also called for stronger intelligence gathering, improved inter-agency collaboration and greater deployment of security technology, while urging closer cooperation between security agencies, communities, traditional rulers and religious leaders.
