Tinubu Orders FCCPC to Probe Meta, Google, X and AI Firms Over Copyright and Competition Concerns

President Bola Tinubu on Monday directed the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to investigate major global technology companies, including Meta, Alphabet and X, formerly Twitter, as well as Generative AI platforms, over allegations of anti-competitive practices and the unlawful use of content belonging to Nigerian media organisations. The directive followed a joint petition by the Nigerian Press Organisation, comprising the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria and the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, and was conveyed to the FCCPC in a letter signed by Information Minister Mohammed Idris.

FG Slashes Import Tariffs on Vehicles — Customs CG

The Federal Government has reduced import tariffs on used vehicles from 15 per cent to five per cent and on brand-new vehicles from 20 per cent to 10 per cent. Customs Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi disclosed this while appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise to defend the service’s 2026 budget proposal.

The naira on Monday depreciated to N1,400 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,395 per dollar last weekend. The currency also fell to N1,371 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market.
