Suspected terrorists behind the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State have reportedly begun negotiations with the government while demanding direct talks with Governor Seyi Makinde amid growing fear in affected communities.
Suspected terrorists responsible for abducting pupils and teachers from three schools in Oyo State have reportedly opened communication channels with the state government, insisting they will only negotiate directly with Governor Seyi Makinde. According to reports, the kidnappers rejected attempts by family members and intermediaries to speak on behalf of the victims, increasing tension among relatives and residents desperately awaiting the safe return of the captives.
The victims, including toddlers aged two and three, have reportedly spent more than a week in captivity inside a forest hideout. Community leaders say fear has spread rapidly across Ogbomoso and surrounding areas, with many parents refusing to send their children back to school due to security concerns. Some schools have also witnessed reduced attendance as teachers and residents remain traumatized by the attacks.
One source familiar with the negotiations said, “They said they only want to talk to the governor and nobody else.” Authorities have reportedly kept details of the discussions confidential to avoid jeopardizing rescue efforts.
It cannot, however, be confirmed if the negotiation is being done by the governor himself or a representative of the state.
