The Presidency has pushed back against Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for a UN-backed probe into the abduction of 45 pupils and teachers, according to Punch Newspapers.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described the demand as unnecessary and politically motivated, accusing Makinde, a presidential aspirant, of distrusting Nigeria’s security institutions. He said the military had already explained the rescue operation, which claimed the lives of some security personnel.
Makinde insisted his call wasn’t political, seeking accountability instead. Four opposition parties backed his position, while the Labour Party opposed UN involvement, citing sovereignty concerns. The rescued victims are now receiving medical and psychological support in Oyo State.
