Nigeria’s gas sector is gaining momentum. The Punch reports that daily natural gas production hit 7.93bcf/d in May 2026, a 0.63 per cent year-on-year increase from the 7.88bcf/d recorded in May 2025.
Domestic sales grew to 2.18bcf/d, up from 2.03bcf/d, while export sales dropped from 4.13bcf/d to 3.07bcf/d. Non-associated gas contributed 3.98bcf/d, slightly outpacing associated gas at 3.96bcf/d — signalling the maturation of dedicated gas development initiatives.
Gas flaring stood at 0.57bcf/d, representing 6.9 per cent of total production, as Nigeria pushes toward ending routine flaring by 2030. Year-to-date production averaged 7.87bcf/d, reflecting steady growth under the government’s Decade of Gas initiative.
