792 Killed, 274 Insurgents Neutralised In June Security Onslaught

Nigeria recorded 882 security incidents and 792 deaths in June, with the military killing 274 insurgents, according to SARI Global’s Nigeria Monthly Security Overview, obtained by The PUNCH and published on ReliefWeb.

The report identified the Monguno axis in northern Borno as the country’s critical humanitarian flashpoint, driven by ISWAP’s nighttime raids and daytime arson targeting aid convoys.

The second week of June was the deadliest, recording 278 incidents. Non-state armed actors caused the most fatalities—337—despite fewer incidents than government forces. Borno was the worst-hit state with 172 deaths, followed by Zamfara and Plateau.

The report also flagged a June 29 ISWAP raid on a Lassa school that saw students and teachers abducted, warning that educational facilities near insurgent strongholds face elevated threats going forward.
