Mainasara Umar Kogo, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, is facing allegations of misconduct, nepotism and alteration of rulings, claims that have yet to be independently verified.
Mainasara Umar Kogo, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, has been accused of misconduct, abuse of office and administrative irregularities in a series of allegations raised by aggrieved staff members months after his appointment.
In documents obtained by SaharaReporters, including a confidential memo dated March 6, 2026 and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, staff accused Kogo of altering rulings agreed upon by the tribunal’s three-man panel during open court proceedings. They alleged that decisions were later modified with additional insertions after sittings, reportedly following ex parte communications involving aides and defendants. However, SaharaReporters noted it could not independently verify the claims at the time of filing the report.
The memo also alleged breaches of federal character principles and nepotism, claiming that over 85 per cent of staff appointments favoured individuals from the chairman’s region and close associates. It further accused him of employing relatives, including his wife, Zainab Aliyu, who was reportedly appointed as an Administrative Officer II and placed on a salary despite allegedly not reporting for duty. A staff member said, “He instructed his Director, Finance and Accounts, to tell the staff members at the headquarters that he had asked his wife to resign.” The tribunal chairman has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
