Four Kano-based House of Representatives members have defected from the NNPP to the ADC, with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announcing the move during plenary.
Four members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling a fresh shift in political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
The lawmakers involved are Sani Wakili, representing Minjibir/Ungogo federal constituency; Muktar Zakari (Tarauni); Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam); and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko), all from Kano State. Their defection adds to the growing movement within opposition ranks as parties reposition for future contests.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, formally announced the defections during plenary on Wednesday after reading their notices, in line with parliamentary procedure.
