Ex-CCT Chairman Danladi Umar Granted N100m Bail
The FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday granted bail to former Code of Conduct Tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar, who is facing gratification charges involving tribunal contractors, according to Premium Times.
Justice Peter Kekemeke fixed bail at N100 million with a surety who must provide proof of property in Abuja, overruling the EFCC’s objection. The judge ruled the anti-graft agency failed to provide strong grounds against bail, noting Umar had cooperated throughout the investigation and never absconded.
The EFCC alleges contractors sent millions to Umar’s wife’s account and paid his children’s university fees. Umar denies the charges. Trial begins October 29.
