Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists attacked Logomani community in Borno State’s Ngala LGA, killing a soldier and destroying a police outpost, health centre and classrooms before being repelled by troops.
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a coordinated late-night assault on Logomani community in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a soldier and razing critical public infrastructure before being pushed back by troops.
The insurgents struck the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani late Tuesday, engaging soldiers in a fierce firefight before forcing residents to flee amid sporadic gunfire. Government facilities, including a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms, were set ablaze in the chaos.
Confirming the attack, Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said troops successfully contained the assault by ISWAP terrorists despite casualties and equipment losses.
“Although the insurgents briefly exploited a section of the base’s defensive perimeter during the intense firefight, the troops rapidly regrouped, mounted a determined counter-offensive and decisively expelled the attackers,” Goni said, noting the fleeing terrorists sustained varying gunshot wounds. “Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage.”
Goni added that reinforcements have since been deployed to the base, with clearance and pursuit operations ongoing to prevent further attacks.
Residents described the assault as swift and highly coordinated. “The terrorists were very sophisticated. After they overpowered the Army, they entered the school and burnt down two classrooms. They also attacked a police outpost and a hospital, which they burnt down,” one resident said, speaking anonymously.
A security source confirmed that a combined team of military personnel, police officers and Civilian Joint Task Force members immediately launched pursuit operations against the fleeing insurgents.
Meanwhile, Ngala Local Government Council Executive Chairman, Mala Tijjani Ngala, visited the affected community to assess the destruction, pledging to forward findings to the Borno State Government for urgent reconstruction support.
