A 29-year-old Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, was found murdered and her body dumped half-naked inside a canal in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja.

A 29-year-old Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, has been found murdered, with her body dumped inside a canal in Jikwoyi, an Abuja suburb. According to her family, the deceased left her home around 8:00 p.m. last Thursday after receiving a phone call from an undisclosed individual. Approximately an hour later, Blessing placed a brief call back to her family, stating that she had forgotten her phone charger and intended to return shortly to retrieve it. Anxiety escalated within the household when she failed to return by the following morning, prompting a frantic search that ended in heartbreak when local residents spotted her remains.

The grim discovery of the half-naked body, which was clothed only in a top, sparked immediate panic in the neighborhood before local authorities intervened. The victim’s sister, Abigail Moshood, detailed how the family first learned of the tragedy through community gossip before verifying the news at the local police station. “We later heard people talking about the body of a woman discovered inside a canal, and someone described the type of hairstyle the deceased had on, which matched my sister’s,” Abigail recalled. “My mother started crying, and we also learnt that policemen from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse, which was found half-naked with only a top on, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.”

Grieving neighbors have expressed deep shock over the loss, describing the late university graduate as an exceptionally intelligent, friendly, and articulate young woman. In the wake of the murder, local residents have appealed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to intensify security patrols and deploy crack detectives to combat a perceived surge in violent crimes around the Jikwoyi Medical Centre axis. At the local division, an operative confirmed that the case file has been opened for thorough cross-examination. Furthermore, the FCT Police Command Spokesperson, SP Josephine, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation into the case is ongoing to identify the culprits and establish the motive behind the killing.
