Some kidnapped passengers in Kogi State pulled off a dramatic escape after the bandits holding them reportedly fell asleep in the forest.
According to Daily Trust, the victims were abducted along the Itobe-Ajegwu-Anyigba road in Ofu Local Government Area after armed men attacked two passenger buses and seized travellers. Three captives reportedly crawled out of the forest when the kidnappers dozed off, eventually finding safety.
Security operatives, vigilantes and local hunters immediately launched a manhunt, while one suspect, identified as Monday Agi, was later arrested after allegedly getting lost in the bush during the operation.
Authorities are still searching for the remaining victims as fear continues to grow over rising highway kidnappings in the area.
