Court dismisses suit against Kingibe, orders plaintiffs to pay N10m fine

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to bar FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe from ADC activities, imposing a N10 million fine each on the plaintiffs and their lawyer.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit seeking to prohibit Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in activities of the African Democratic Congress, following her alleged suspension by Wuse Ward executives in Abuja.

Justice Peter Lifu, ruling on Friday, held that the matter was an internal affair of the ADC requiring no court intervention.

The judge described the suit as frivolous, baseless and unfounded, questioning why those who suspended the senator came to court to validate their own action, noting that it was Kingibe who ought to be in court to challenge the suspension.

“Her actions constitute flagrant disregard to the internal mechanism of the party,” the plaintiffs had claimed.

Justice Lifu invoked sections 82 and 83 of the Electoral Act, imposing a N10 million fine on the plaintiffs and another N10 million against their lawyer, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kolawole Olowookere — both sums payable to Senator Kingibe.
