Police apprehend suspected bandit informant in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Surajo Isyaku, for allegedly supplying intelligence to armed bandits, participating in kidnappings and cattle rustling in Matazu Local Government Area.

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested Surajo Isyaku, 45, for alleged involvement in kidnapping, cattle rustling and supplying intelligence to armed bandits operating in Matazu Local Government Area and surrounding communities.

According to police spokesman DSP Abubakar Sadiq, detectives acting on credible intelligence tracked and arrested the suspect on May 15. During interrogation, Isyaku allegedly confessed to participating in two kidnapping operations in Sayaya village in which victims paid ₦7 million in ransom, receiving ₦900,000 as his share.

The suspect also allegedly admitted to facilitating the rustling of 14 cows and confessed to involvement in an April 5 attack on Sayaya village in which houses were burned and a police officer killed.

Police are pursuing fleeing accomplices including alleged kingpin Bello and a collaborator identified as Babaye. Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage said “investigation is in progress, and the suspect will be charged in court upon conclusion.”
