The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police, including the heads of the Lagos and FCT commands, to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) following a merit-based examination and interview process.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday, March 12, 2026, announced the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). Among the notable elevations are Mr. Dantawaye Miller, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Mr. Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State. According to a statement released by Torty Kalu, the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs for the PSC, the senior officers were selected based on their successful performance in recently concluded written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
The elevation of these top officers is part of a broader merit-based exercise aimed at strengthening the leadership cadre and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force. In addition to Miller and Jimoh, the newly promoted AIGs include Emmanuel Ado Christopher, Joseph Eribo, Uche Ifeanyi Henry, Olarenwaju Peter Ogunlowo, Muhammad Dahiru, and Dankombo Morris. Other successful candidates listed by the Commission are Bello Shehu, Ibrahim B. Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, and Haruna Olufemi. The PSC emphasized that the list of successful officers has been formally conveyed to the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) for “immediate implementation.”
Chairman of the PSC, Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), congratulated the newly promoted officers and described the exercise as a recognition of dedication and professional excellence. He charged the officers to justify their new ranks by redoubling their efforts toward national security and effective policing. The promotion cycle also saw the elevation of 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioner, alongside dozens of other senior officers. Argungu reiterated the Commission’s commitment to transparency, noting that “promotion is not an end but an opportunity to contribute more to the noble task of safeguarding lives and proper.
