Nigeria advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stage after defeating Tunisia 3-2 in a thrilling Group C match at Fez stadium on Saturday. Victor Osimhen, captain Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman scored for the Super Eagles, who dominated much of the contest before surviving a tense finish. The victory gave Nigeria six points and maintained their perfect tournament start.
The Super Eagles controlled the first half, with Osimhen giving Nigeria the lead through a downward header from Lookman’s cross. Ndidi extended the advantage five minutes after halftime with his first international goal, a glancing header from Lookman’s corner. Lookman then completed the scoring burst on 67 minutes, finishing a swift counter attack to make it 3-0.
Tunisia mounted a dramatic late comeback as Montassar Talbi scored on 74 minutes before Ali Abdi converted an 87th-minute penalty for handball. Nigeria held firm through the final minutes to secure victory. Coach Eric Chelle’s team will face Uganda in their final Group C match on Tuesday, December 30.
