The Nigerian Army arrested a soldier for gunrunning and carried out nationwide operations that rescued kidnap victims, seized weapons, and neutralised terrorists.
The Nigerian Army has arrested Lance Cpl. Saifullahi Garba for alleged gunrunning while rescuing kidnap victims and recovering weapons in nationwide operations.
A military source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja that Garba was caught in Marte, Borno State, with 711 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. “Preliminary findings showed that the soldier had been accumulating the ammunition from clearance operations with the intent of supplying terrorists,” the source said. He has since been handed over to authorities.
Troops also intercepted terrorists’ logistics in Bama, recovering 379 rounds of ammunition, while ambush operations in Borno and Yobe led to the recovery of rifles, ammunition, and the death of one terrorist. In the North-Central, troops rescued eight kidnap victims, recovered 579 rustled cattle, and seized weapons from armed herdsmen. In Rivers State, 10 armed suspects were arrested in OSPAC uniforms.
“These operations demonstrate both the army’s resolve … and its vigilance to deal decisively with any betrayal within the ranks,” the source added.
