The Federal Government will return 13 of the 50 oil and gas blocks offered in the 2025 Licensing Round to the basket after they failed to attract any bids.
13 Oil Blocks Return to Basket After No Bids
Thirteen oil blocks are heading back to the shelf. The Federal Government says the assets, part of the 50 blocks offered under the 2025 Licensing Round, got zero investor interest and will now return to the licensing basket, according to Punch.
The disclosure came from Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission chief executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, at Tuesday’s 2025 Commercial Bid Conference in Abuja. She said only 37 of the 50 blocks drew representation, with 143 companies submitting roughly 200 bids overall.
Interest had started strong — nearly 300 companies initially, trimmed to 196 after prequalification. The round, launched November 2025, spans onshore, shallow water, deep offshore and inland basin assets.
