Ohanaeze Backs Umahi, Condemns “Politicisation” of Habila Death

Ohanaeze Ndigbo is standing firmly behind David Umahi. The apex Igbo socio-cultural group condemned what it called the “premature politicisation” of Mary Habila’s death at the Works Minister’s Ebonyi residence, according to Tribune Online. In a statement signed by Deputy President-General Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Deputy Secretary-General Chibuikeya Achoakawa, the group rejected calls by Atiku Abubakar and the Northern Youth Forum for Umahi’s suspension, calling them “politically motivated.” Ohanaeze declared Umahi would not resign under pressure and pointed to what it described as selective outrage, contrasting the case with the 2022 killing of Deborah Samuel. The group noted Umahi’s support for an autopsy and urged investigators to complete their work without interference.
