Nigeria Launches FreeTV: Full Channel List Released
The days of mandatory subscription bills just got a challenge. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), in partnership with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), has launched FreeTV — a free-to-air digital broadcasting platform giving Nigerians access to over 65 channels at no cost, according to Gazette NGR.
The platform spans news, sports, entertainment, movies, music, and children’s programming, mixing local, international, and specialised stations. Major names on the lineup include Channels Television, AIT, TVC, Arise News, NTA, Silverbird TV, Wazobia TV, Trust TV, Arewa24, NTA Sports 24, and TVC News, among dozens of others.
Religious broadcasters are also represented, with Emmanuel TV, Dove TV, Kaftan TV, Lumen Christi TV, and Mountain of Fire TV all listed. Children’s programming comes via AfroKidz, while Opera TV Tune rounds out entertainment options.
The platform was designed to expand quality digital broadcasting and widen access to local television services across the country.
