The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has given NNPC’s external auditors seven days to break down over ₦210 trillion in receivables and payables recorded in the company’s audited financial statements.
Lawmakers Reject Auditors’ Excuse Over Unexplained NNPC Trillions
The committee, chaired by Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, issued the directive during a resumed hearing on Wednesday in Abuja, as part of its review of NNPC’s accounts from 2017 to 2023, Nigerian Tribune reports.
Auditors had asked for two weeks to respond, but senators pushed back, with Dankwambo insisting supporting schedules must already exist if the figures were properly audited.
Senator Abdul Ningi cited constitutional powers compelling compliance, while Senator Adams Oshiomhole stressed the auditors, not NNPC, were responsible for the figures.
Dankwambo said the ₦210 trillion remains unreconciled and unexplained, though not necessarily missing, before the committee dismissed the auditors pending compliance.
