A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a final warning to Omoyele Sowore, threatening to close his defence in his criminal defamation trial if further delays occur.
Court Warns Sowore Over Delays, Threatens to Close His Defence
According to Punch, Justice Mohammed Umar issued the warning on Thursday after Sowore’s lead counsel, Olumide Fusika, was again absent, reportedly attending to a family matter abroad. Counsel for the Department of State Services, Akinlolu Kehinde, opposed a further adjournment, arguing the defence had repeatedly delayed proceedings despite an earlier order for accelerated hearing. Justice Umar granted what he called a final adjournment, warning the defence would be deemed closed if Sowore or his counsel failed to proceed at the next hearing. The case, over Sowore’s remarks calling President Bola Tinubu a “criminal,” was adjourned to July 22.
