You have just one week to apologise over airport clamp drama, Keyamo warns Peter Obi

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has refuted Peter Obi’s claim that his vehicle was unjustly clamped at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, citing CCTV footage showing the car was left unattended in a restricted zone for 30 minutes before Obi used personal influence to secure its release without paying the N25,000 fine.

Peter Obi cried persecution. The airport cameras were rolling.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has hit back hard at the NDC presidential candidate’s claims that his vehicle was unjustly clamped at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, presenting CCTV evidence and demanding a public apology and payment of a N25,000 parking fine — with a one-week deadline.

Following an internal inquiry triggered by Obi’s public allegations of a government “persecution agenda,” Keyamo said footage from the airport’s 24/7 CCTV system told a markedly different story.

According to the minister, as reported by The Sun, Obi arrived at the domestic terminal at 20:28 on July 4, 2026, with a police driver and two passengers. The driver parked in a restricted drop-off zone, briefly returned to collect something from the vehicle, then left it entirely unattended — at which point security staff clamped the tyres.

“Nobody was inside the car and so nobody knew whether it was his car — not that it should matter, anyway,” Keyamo said.

When the driver returned and discovered the clamp, he called Obi, who then spoke directly with an airport manager and secured the vehicle’s release without paying the fine.

“Mr. Peter Obi then introduced himself and spoke with the manager, peddled his ‘influence’ and requested for the release of the vehicle,” Keyamo stated.

The minister described Obi’s subsequent media narrative as a “false” account designed to score political points and demanded two things: a public apology to airport workers and voluntary payment of the N25,000 fine within one week.

“He cannot be bigger than the law. If these demands are not met within one week, I will be giving the necessary directives to the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to take the next steps against him,” Keyamo warned.

Keyamo said he attached the CCTV footage to his statement for public scrutiny.

Obi has not yet publicly responded to the minister’s account and demands.
