Security operatives arrested eight suspected kidnappers and neutralized others during the operation that secured the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 56 days in captivity. Vanguard reports that the Presidency confirmed the development, ending weeks of uncertainty.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on his X account. He said the suspects are now in the custody of the Department of State Services, while other gang members were killed during the rescue mission.
Onanuga added that no prisoner swap or concession was made to the kidnappers, despite their demand for the release of a jailed kingpin. He said security agencies would give a full account of the operation in due course.
