FG pushes 112 as Nigeria’s unified emergency line

The Federal Government, through Vice President Kashim Shettima, is finalising plans with the NCC and state governments to roll out 112 as Nigeria’s unified nationwide emergency contact number.

FG Moves To Make 112 Emergency Number

Nigeria is inching closer to having one number for every emergency.

According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, the Federal Government announced Thursday it’s working with state governors and emergency agencies to implement 112 as the country’s single emergency telephone number. The move follows a Presidential Villa meeting between Vice President Kashim Shettima and an NCC delegation led by board chairman Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe, after the National Economic Council approved the initiative.

Shettima directed the NCC to draft an implementation roadmap alongside NEMA and pledged funding through NEC and private sector partners. Olorunnimbe revealed the NCC has already set up about 35 Emergency Communications Centres nationwide, urging stronger state-level collaboration to keep them functional.
