Reps Urge FG To Suspend SA Relations

Nigeria’s lawmakers are done watching from the sidelines — they want action against South Africa.

According to a report by Peoples Gazette, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted a motion by Yusuf Gagdi (APC-Plateau) on Thursday, calling for a full review of bilateral ties with South Africa and suspension of relations if necessary, until Nigerians’ safety is guaranteed.

The House urged the government to summon South Africa’s High Commission for explanations, demand an independent international investigation into the killings, and push the African Union to hold South Africa accountable under continental human rights obligations.

Lawmakers also called for stronger consular support and observed a minute of silence for victims of the violence.
