Bwala: UK care home jobs amount to modern-day slavery for Nigerians

Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has claimed that many Nigerian graduates working in UK care homes endure modern-day slavery, earning barely enough to survive after rent and bills despite holding advanced degrees.

Bwala: Nigerians In UK Care Homes Enslaved

Bwala says the “japa” dream isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

According to a report by Tribune Online, the presidential media aide told The Morayo Show that Nigerians who relocated abroad and now work in UK care homes are living in “modern-day slavery,” despite many holding first-class or second-class degrees plus additional qualifications.

He said such workers earn between £2,600 and £2,800 monthly, but most of that — around £2,450 — goes into rent, electricity, internet and other bills, leaving little behind.

Bwala added that the tight margins push many into juggling two or three jobs just to get by, which he linked to reports of workers collapsing from exhaustion.
