No visa, no problem: Here are 46 countries Nigerians can visit without prior application in 2026

Nigerian passport holders can access approximately 46 countries in 2026 without obtaining a traditional visa before departure, spanning Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania through visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival and eVisa arrangements.

The Nigerian passport may not be the world’s most powerful — but it is opening more doors than many travellers realise.

According to the latest travel advisory for international travellers, as reported by PM News, Nigerians can visit around 46 countries in 2026 without securing a traditional visa before departure, with destinations spread across five regions offering visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival and electronic visa options.

West Africa remains the most accessible corridor. Under the ECOWAS Free Movement Protocol, Nigerian passport holders can enter Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo — with stays of up to 90 days. Cape Verde extends visa-on-arrival access to ECOWAS citizens.

Beyond the region, Cameroon, Mauritius, Rwanda and Seychelles offer relatively smooth entry for Nigerians.

The Caribbean presents a surprisingly generous list of destinations — Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago all grant entry without prior visa arrangements, making the region an increasingly attractive option for tourism, business and family travel.

In Asia and the Middle East, the Maldives offers full visa-free access, while Nepal, Cambodia and Timor-Leste issue visas on arrival. Bahrain operates an electronic visa platform. Oceania destinations open to Nigerians include Fiji, Kiribati, Micronesia, Samoa and Vanuatu.

Further afield, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mozambique, Suriname and Bolivia all offer visa-on-arrival or eVisa options. Kenya specifically operates an Electronic Travel Authorisation system to streamline entry.

The picture remains considerably tougher for high-demand destinations. The United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Germany, the UAE and most Schengen Area countries still require traditional visas from Nigerian applicants.

Travel experts note that expanding eVisa and visa-on-arrival programmes are progressively improving global mobility for Nigerian passport holders.
