Ex-CCT Chairman Umar Pleads Not Guilty, Remanded
Danladi Umar’s day in court didn’t go his way.
According to a report by The Punch, the ex-CCT chairman pleaded not guilty to four corruption counts before Justice Peter Kekemeke at the FCT High Court in Abuja on Thursday. The EFCC-led charges accuse him of funneling contractor payments to his wife and using company funds to cover his children’s university tuition.
His defence lawyer sought bail, but prosecutors said they needed more time to respond, having only been served the bail application Wednesday afternoon.
Justice Kekemeke adjourned the case till July 15 for the bail hearing and ordered Umar remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre in the meantime.
