LAGOS ARRESTS 396 BEGGARS, BEGINS PROFILING FOR RETURN HOME

The Lagos State Government has arrested 396 beggars and commenced profiling them ahead of their return to their respective home states, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab said in a statement on X, Nairametrics reports.

Wahab said the arrests were carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps as part of efforts to sanitise the state and curb illegal activities. Those apprehended will be profiled, given assistance where necessary, and handed over to relevant authorities to facilitate their safe return.

The exercise follows a similar 2013 operation under the Fashola administration, which drew national attention after some beggars were reportedly returned to Anambra State, sparking public debate at the time.
