Fear swept through Yashikira community in Kwara State after suspected terrorists launched a midnight assault, kidnapping at least 10 people and setting part of the emir’s palace ablaze.
According to Peoples Gazette, the attackers stormed the area around 12:40 a.m., firing heavily for hours as residents hid indoors. The gunmen reportedly attacked both the police divisional headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in a coordinated raid.
“It was a terrible attack,” one resident told the newspaper, adding that gunshots echoed through the community for hours.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the attack, saying security operatives eventually repelled the assailants after a fierce gun battle, though several residents were abducted and parts of the palace destroyed by fire.
