The Senate on Wednesday approved N50 million for the families of five people who died during the rescue operation following the Oriire schools abduction in Oyo State, with each family receiving N10 million, according to Punch Newspaper.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the donation during plenary, commending security agencies for rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers after 56 days in captivity. The gesture followed a motion by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele praising President Tinubu and the military for the July 10 rescue operation.

Lawmakers paid tribute to three soldiers and two teachers who died, and urged continued medical support for an injured soldier.
