Rescued principal Rachael Alamu says her abducted colleagues were killed by kidnappers as a pressure tactic against the government during their 56-day captivity in Oriire, Oyo State.
Oyo Principal Reveals Why Kidnappers Killed Abducted Teachers
The principal of Community High School, Oriire Local Government Area, Mrs Rachael Alamu, has broken her silence on why her abductors murdered two of her colleagues during their weeks-long ordeal in the forest, according to Punch Newspaper.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday, Alamu said Mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun was killed on the second day of captivity, while Esiyan Adegboye, 49, was shot on the first Sunday of June. She said the killings were calculated to force the government’s hand, given the intense public attention the case had drawn.
Alamu described spending most of the 56 days exposed to the elements in open forest while trying to keep frightened children calm. She said younger pupils were beaten whenever they cried, though she herself wasn’t physically assaulted.
The victims were handed over to the Oyo State Government by the Federal Government on Monday, arriving under heavy military escort. They had earlier received treatment at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, where Governor Seyi Makinde visited them on Saturday.
