The Lagos State Government is defending its land reclamation project at the Makoko waterfront. Commissioner Dayo Alebiosu stated the project, handled by FBT Coral, received necessary approvals from both state and federal governments. Concerns were raised by the Federal Ministry of Works regarding the Third Mainland Bridge’s integrity, but investigations confirmed sand was pumped from distant locations, not dredged nearby. The project underwent an Environmental Impact Assessment and secured drainage clearance. After a year-long suspension for additional federal clearance, a technical committee reviewed and approved the project’s resumption.
