Africa CDC warns 10 countries are at risk as the Ebola outbreak spreads, citing mobility and insecurity concerns.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that 10 African countries are at risk as the Ebola outbreak spreads across Central and East Africa. Agency head Jean Kaseya said the countries include Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia. “We have 10 countries at risk,” Kaseya said, attributing the threat to “high mobility and insecurity” in affected regions.

The warning follows the World Health Organization declaration of the outbreak as an international emergency. The outbreak, centred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has recorded hundreds of suspected cases and over 170 suspected deaths. Africa CDC earlier declared it a “Public Health Emergency of Continental Security,” citing risks of wider transmission.
