LAGOS GOVERNMENT THREATENS LEGAL ACTION OVER FAKE FLOOD VIDEO
The Lagos State Government has threatened to sue an X user identified as Enugu Loudmouth (@Jamessucre2) over a misleading flood video falsely claimed to have been filmed in Lagos. Premium Times reports that Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said deleting the post would not shield the user from legal consequences.
Investigations traced the viral footage to Bangladesh, not Lagos. He said the government respects citizens’ right to freedom of expression but insisted it must be exercised responsibly and within the law, adding that false information undermines public trust and weakens genuine residents’ complaints.
The commissioner did not disclose the specific legal action or timeline for proceedings. The development follows earlier allegations that bloggers and social media users had circulated misleading flood content falsely attributed to Lagos.
