Nigerian troops uncovered suspected remains of a soldier couple killed in 2022 after dismantling an IPOB/ESN camp in Imo State.
The Nigerian Army has dismantled a suspected camp of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, in Imo State, recovering remains believed to belong to two soldiers killed in 2022. The operation took place along the Ubaha Orsu axis of Orsu Local Government Area following intelligence reports.
“Acting on intelligence information, the operation… was part of a deliberate clearance and search mission aimed at dismantling IPOB/ESN hideout… and locating the remains of two personnel… who were brutally abducted and murdered,” the Army said. Troops reportedly came under heavy attack but “decisively engaged the terrorists,” forcing them to flee.
Following the operation, troops discovered and excavated shallow graves containing suspected human remains. “The recovered remains have since been secured for detailed forensic analysis, including DNA testing,” the statement added, noting efforts to contact families for proper identification and burial. The Army reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and urged public cooperation.
