The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has unveiled V-Pass, a biometric facial recognition system that will let domestic passengers verify their identity without physical ID documents.
FAAN to Replace Physical IDs With Facial Recognition at Airports
According to Punch, FAAN announced the initiative in a post on its X handle on Thursday, describing it as part of its digital transformation drive. FAAN’s Director of Commercial and Business Development, Adebola Joy Agunbiade, said passengers will complete a one-time enrolment, after which they can be identified via facial recognition at electronic gates during check-in and boarding. She said the system would improve security, reduce queues, and help maintain a comprehensive passenger database. FAAN said V-Pass complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation but did not specify a rollout date.
