Ex-sport minister Dalung: No one wins Nigerian presidency without Northern votes

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development Solomon Dalung has declared that no presidential candidate can win a Nigerian election without securing votes from the North, adding that the country has returned to the regional politics of the First Republic.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has declared that no presidential candidate can win a Nigerian election without securing support from Northern Nigeria, describing the region as predominantly African Democratic Congress territory.

Dalung made the assertion in Lafia while monitoring ADC primary elections for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate positions in Nasarawa State, where he serves as Chairperson of the ADC State Election Committee.

“You can’t win an election in Nigeria without support from the North. You cannot. The North is mainly ADC,” he said.

The former minister argued that Nigeria has reverted to the regional politics that characterised the First Republic, with each major ethnic and regional bloc now gravitating toward a distinct political party.

“We are now focusing on regional politics in Nigeria. What took place in the first republic is similar to what is happening now. So, every region has its party.

“The Igbos have taken APGA. APC, Nigerians have left it to Tinubu and his group. The PDP, Jonathan has brought it down South,” he said.
