A Federal High Court in Ibadan has halted the EFCC’s planned probe into Oyo State’s finances, ruling the agency’s request lacked specific allegations to justify it, according to Premium Times.
Justice Nkeonye Maha set aside the EFCC’s June 2025 letter demanding extensive financial records, saying such demands must be “reasonable and linked to identifiable allegations of wrongdoing.” The judge held that Section 38 of the EFCC Act doesn’t authorise “speculative or blanket inquiries.”
The Oyo government, represented by Attorney General Abiodun Aikomo, had argued the EFCC’s request was oppressive and unconstitutional. The commission maintained it had unrestricted powers to demand information under the Act.
