Hundreds of intimate videos have leaked online featuring Baltasar Ebang Engonga, a powerful relative of Equatorial Guinea’s president and director of the country’s tax administration, triggering a major political scandal involving wives and daughters of senior government officials.
Equatorial Guinea has been rocked by a major scandal after hundreds of intimate videos leaked on social media featuring Baltasar Ebang Engonga, known as “Bello” — director of the country’s tax administration and great-nephew of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema.
Engonga, described by insiders as “one of the country’s most powerful men, entrusted by the family with control over finances and tax administration,” was already under investigation for suspicious transfers of public funds to private accounts in the Cayman Islands.
His detention at Black Beach prison led to the seizure of phones and computers, revealing more than 400 intimate videos which subsequently leaked online. The videos implicate wives and daughters of senior ministers, generals and dignitaries.
Vice President Teodorín Obiang, who launched the initial financial investigation, has since held crisis meetings with affected individuals, declaring bluntly: “Sexual relations are forbidden in offices.”
The scandal carries significant political consequences, potentially weakening Engonga’s father, the head of the CEMAC commission, while strengthening Teodorín’s grip on power.
