Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has clinched the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket for the 2027 election following a direct primary held across the state, defeating his main challenger Lanre Jim-Kamal.
Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has emerged as the APC governorship candidate in Lagos State for the 2027 general election, defeating his main challenger Lanre Jim-Kamal in a direct primary held across the state on Wednesday.
Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu, secured 2,210 votes in Ward A4 alone. He praised the conduct of the exercise, describing it as a competition of ideas rather than a conflict.
“It’s a competition of ideas. How do we move our people forward? We don’t need to fight. As you can see, we are peaceful,” he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who openly backed Hamzat’s candidacy, described the primary as calm, inclusive and credible. Hamzat’s emergence had been widely anticipated following endorsements from key APC structures including the Governor’s Advisory Council.
