Nigerian socialite and entrepreneur Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu does not fully trust him due to his ethnicity and his previous support for Peter Obi during the 2023 elections.
Nigerian entrepreneur and socialite Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu does not fully trust him because he is Igbo. Speaking during an interactive session with content creator Peller on Tuesday evening, the prominent nightlife promoter explained that one of the primary reasons he does not expect an open reception from the presidency is his well-documented support for Labour Party candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election. Reflecting on his current standing within the political landscape, Cubana Chief Priest stated, “Let me tell you, as I am now, Tinubu doesn’t really trust me as an Igbo man. He looks at me with one eye. He is still like ‘this one that has worked for Peter Obi before’.”
The political revelation comes shortly after the businessman failed in his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State. Although he had officially picked up the ruling party’s nomination form to run for the legislative seat, he later downplayed the loss by telling his followers that he never fully contested in the primary election in the first place. Despite the internal party setback and his lingering concerns over presidential trust, the socialite has continued to actively embed himself within the ruling party’s mobilization structures.
Currently serving as the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement—a prominent pro-Tinubu support group—Cubana Chief Priest defended his decision to shift his political allegiance to the incumbent administration. He disclosed that he threw his weight behind President Tinubu because he had a strong desire not to “lose for a second time” by backing the opposition again. Looking ahead to the next general elections, the entrepreneur added that his political realignment was also driven by his pragmatic assessment of the landscape, noting that he firmly believes Peter Obi stands no realistic chance of winning the 2027 presidential election.
